Dolichothele mineirum, commonly known as the Brazilian Black Dwarf Beauty, is a compact yet striking New World tarantula native to Brazil. Despite its small size, this species packs serious visual impact, displaying deep blue-purple tones contrasted with vibrant orange or reddish hairs across the abdomen and legs. Colouration is often visible even at smaller sizes, making it a popular choice for keepers who enjoy highly coloured dwarf species.
This tarantula is a prolific webber and an active burrower, often creating dense silk networks across the enclosure floor. While it lacks urticating hairs, D. mineirum is quick and defensive, relying on speed rather than tolerance when disturbed. Best suited to intermediate keepers, this species thrives in enclosures with moderate humidity, good ventilation, and plenty of anchor points for webbing. When settled, it becomes a fascinating, high-energy display species that proves small doesn’t mean boring.
